International Festival of the Sea

International Festival of the Sea

With previous festivals having occurred in Bristol (1996), Portsmouth (1998 & 2001) and Edinburgh (2003) – this highly successful event returned to it's 'spiritual home', namely HM Naval Base, Portsmouth, in July 2005, as part of the 'Trafalgar 200 Celebrations'. In addition to the magnificent Tall Ships, flotillas of vessels arrive from throughout the world to join the significant numbers of Royal Navy and foreign Navy ships that give their authority to the event. Over the 4 days of the festival up to 500,000 people enjoy a dramatic programme of entertainment on land and water, and a huge exhibition area includes stalls with a maritime theme and demonstrations of traditional and maritime skills. As Event Director & Head of Event Management – Dick Tee and the EnTEEtainment team are responsible for all aspects of the land based events and operations together with infra-structure installation and the interface with maritime and on water activities. Plans for future IFOS based events are ongoing and this highly successful show is scheduled to return within the next few years.
